Hand Coffee Mills are those our grandmothers (or maybe our great grandmothers) used for grinding their coffee beans.  Haven’t seen one of those yet?  They may be in your grandma’s home or used as decorations in antique shops or in restaurants.  They are indeed cute and adorable but if you’re considering of buying one of those for your use or for your friends, then you should first know about their advantages and disadvantages.

The first advantage is their aesthetic value.  They are undeniably cute and vintage-looking (which is so in nowadays).  It’s somehow a ticket to the past which will probably bring your grandma tears while reminiscing her experiences when she was but a girl.  Another is that it provides a sense of security because you grind your beans by yourself.  This is especially great to those who enjoy the coffee making process.  Lastly, they are just noiseless and portable so you can grind your coffee beans even when you are out camping.

For the disadvantages, first is the speed.  If you are always on-the-go, then having a hand coffee mill will take up all your precious time.  You also cannot grind much coffee beans at the same time.  So if you will have lots of people coming over your house for coffee, then you should save all your energy for the grinding.  There are also those which are made for decorative purposes only so beware of that.  Lastly, they are difficult to keep in place while grinding.  They were built so small and handy so people can place them in between their knees when grinding.  Funny isn’t it?
